Force forcing login window root password me account
Q: The system always starts up without a login window if the 'me' account has no password. How do I force a login window so I can log onto the root account without setting a password on the me account?
A: You can do this, though its a bit tricky. Here's how:
Assuming you are logged in as 'me', log out. Get your finger poised over the left mouse button. Logging out as 'me' causes the Workspace and Window server to be restarted. At some point in the restarting of the system, the cursor will disappear from wherever you have left it, and shortly reappear 100 pixels from the top left corner.
As soon as the cursor reappears, but not before, depress the left mouse button. You have a <1 sec. window to do this in. Just hold the button down, and the system will come up to loginwindow rather than launching the workspace. You can now log in as whoever you want.
If you wish to revert to the default behavior (ie, no login window), login as a user named 'exit', with no password. This will restart the Workspace and Window server, and will revert to its normal behavior.
